It is my pleasure to provide this letter of recommendation for National Insurance Advisory Services (NIAS). We are an established healthcare company in Kansas that employs hundreds of nursing personnel, and we take our obligation to care for injured employees very seriously. In the past, our insurers commended us for our successful safety and loss prevention programs. However, we were recently assigned to our state’s Workers’ Compensation insurance high-risk pool because of an NCCI reclassification of risk associated with our industry combined with greater reserves required by our insurers, and our insurers’ failure to close claims in a timely manner. Consequently, our premium increased 143% from the previous year.
In July 2003, we responded to a letter that we received from NIAS. It quickly became clear to our company’s Board of Directors that NIAS would be an effective partner in managing our Workers’ Compensation program. For example, in a short period of time, an NIAS representative assisted our company in closing six open claims with our insurance carriers; this eliminated nearly $12,000 in reserves. In addition, the NIAS Claims Department reduced our open claim reserves by $50,000.
Finally, although our working relationship with NIAS is still in an infancy stage, and the “jury is still out” on the final verdict, these results should demand the attention of any cost-conscious employer. We are currently on track to lowering our Workers’ Compensation premiums, and exiting the assigned risk pool.
Sincerely,
Kevin Keagy
Human Resource Director
